Supply chain modelling using world leading software

A multi-national component manufacturing company needed to review its distribution arrangements involving the Asia Pacific region, where many of its manufacturing, development and distribution facilities were located.

The project involved the gathering, analysis and mapping of data concerning distribution flows and costs throughout the region, with the need to deal with different languages and alphabets to identify where individual addresses were located.

We then constructed a model of the supplying points, ports, airports and destinations using the Infor Network Design tool.  This included the historical flows and costs by transport modes into, within and from the region and was used to analyse the supply chain and indicate improvements.

The project indicated how major savings could be achieved by redirection of flows, relocation of stock-holding points, development of rational service propositions for different sectors and geographies and a reduction in airfreight.
